International Volunteering
Since 2009, Klong Toh Lem Academy Foundation (KTLA) has been hosting international volunteers through DaLaa – International Volunteering for Social Development.
DaLaa promotes international volunteering as a tool for community and self-development and it was the organization that first recognized in 2009 the potential of Kok Payom and its villagers (visit “our history” for more information). Since then, KTLA has been one of its hosting projects and it receives trough it international volunteers under different programs.
Primarily through the International Voluntary Service (IVS) and the Network for Voluntary Development in Asia (NVDA), DaLaa sends to KTLA international volunteers willing to explore life and costumes of rural Thailand and to help the local communities to thrive. Volunteers come to take part to short-term workcamps (find more info in “Workcamps”) or as so-called middle (1-3 months) and long-term volunteers (3-12 months).
Middle and long-term volunteers sent under the International Voluntary Service in KTLA engage primarily in educational activities such as creative English teaching, arts and sports with children and youths of the village. Volunteers teach both in the primary school of the village, where there is a strong need of English classes, and in the Academy where they hold afternoon classes through non-formal education methods. In the Thai education system there is a lack of qualified English teachers and the few who are there are primarily assigned to city schools, making unequal the levels of educational provision across the country. KTLA tries to address this issue with its programs where volunteers are encouraged to challenge themselves with creative methods of language teaching.
Since 2018 and always through DaLaa, KTLA has been hosting professionals specialized in community and organization development under the EU Aid Volunteers program. EU Aid Volunteers focus on activities related to the aforementioned field of expertise: they primarily carry out field research in order to enhance grassroots sustainable development; additionally, they boost the organization’s capacities through trainings and ad hoc strategies by addressing the educational gaps and needs of the Foundation. So far, as a result of their work, an extensive Needs & Strengths Assessment was carried out in the village of Kok Payom (with more than 50% of the village interviewed door-to-door and 4 focus groups organized), a partnership with the Satun Community College was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding and a Communication Strategy for the Foundation was created and implemented (including the creation of this website).

นับตั้งแต่ปีพ.ศ. 2552 ที่มูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมีได้ดูแลอาสาสมัครนานาชาติภายใต้โครงการของสมาคมอาสาสมัครนานาชาติเพื่อการพัฒนาสังคม (ดาหลา) ดาหลาส่งเสริมการเป็นอาสาสมัครระดับนานาชาติในฐานะเครื่องมือสำหรับการพัฒนาชุมชนและการพัฒนาตนเอง โดยดาหลาเป็นองค์กรที่ได้รับการยอมรับเป็นครั้งแรกในปีพ.ศ. 2552 ถึงศักยภาพของชุมชนโคกพยอมและชาวบ้าน (สำหรับข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมดูที่ "ประวัติความเป็นมา") ตั้งแต่นั้นมามูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมีเป็นหนึ่งในโครงการให้การดูแลอาสาสมัคร (hosting) และได้รับอาสาสมัครนานาชาติภายใต้โครงการต่าง ๆ
โดยส่วนใหญ่ผ่านบริการอาสาสมัครระหว่างประเทศ (IVS) และเครือข่ายเพื่อการพัฒนาอาสาสมัครในเอเชีย (NVDA) ดาหลาส่งอาสาสมัครนานาชาติมายังมูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมี โดยที่เหล่าอาสมัครนั้นเต็มใจที่จะสำรวจชีวิตและวัฒนธรรมของชนบทในไทย รวมถึงช่วยเหลือชุมชนท้องถิ่นให้เจริญรุ่งเรือง ซึ่งอาสาสมัครจะได้มีส่วนร่วมกับค่ายอาสาระยะสั้น (หาข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมได้ใน“ ค่ายอาสา”) หรือที่เรียกกันว่าอาสาสมัครระยะกลาง (1-3 เดือน) และอาสาสมัครระยะยาว (3-12 เดือน)
อาสาสมัครระยะกลางและอาสาสมัครระยะยาวที่ส่งภายใต้บริการอาสาสมัครนานาชาติในมูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมี มีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมการศึกษาเป็นหลัก เช่น การสอนภาษาอังกฤษเชิงสร้างสรรค์ ศิลปะและกีฬาร่วมกับเด็กและเยาวชนภายในชุมชน โดยอาสาสมัครจะสอนทั้งในโรงเรียนประถมของชุมชนซึ่งเป็นโรงเรียนที่ภาษาอังกฤษมีความต้องการอย่างมากในชั้นเรียน และในตอนบ่ายจะมีการเรียนการสอนด้วยวิธีการศึกษานอกระบบ ในระบบการศึกษาของไทยนั้นยังขาดครูสอนภาษาอังกฤษที่มีคุณภาพและมีเพียงไม่กี่คนที่มีโอกาสไปศึกษาในตัวเมือง ทำให้เกิดความไม่เท่าเทียมกันของระบบการศึกษา มูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมีพยายามแก้ไขปัญหานี้ด้วยการเรียนรู้นอกระบบที่เหล่าอาสาสมัครได้รับการสนับสนุนให้ท้าทายตัวเองด้วยวิธีการสอนภาษาที่สร้างสรรค์
ในปีพ.ศ. 2561 ตลอดจนปัจจุบัน ดาหลาและมูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมีเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านการพัฒนาชุมชนและองค์กรภายใต้โครงการอาสาสมัครช่วยเหลือสังคมของสหภาพยุโรป (EU Aid Volunteers) มุ่งเน้นไปที่กิจกรรมที่เกี่ยวข้องกับสาขาความเชี่ยวชาญดังกล่าว: พวกเขาดำเนินการวิจัยภาคสนามเป็นหลักเพื่อเพิ่มการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืนในระดับรากหญ้า นอกจากนี้ยังเพิ่มขีดความสามารถขององค์กรผ่านการฝึกอบรมและกลยุทธ์เฉพาะกิจโดยแก้ไขช่องว่างทางการศึกษาและความต้องการของมูลนิธิ จนถึงขณะนี้ผลงานของพวกมูลนิธิคลองโต๊ะเหล็มอะคาเดมีประกอบด้วย โครงการประเมินความต้องการและจุดแข็งของชุมชนบ้านโคกพยอท (มากกว่าร้อยละ 50 ของหมู่บ้านสัมภาษณ์แบบรายคน บ้านต่อบ้าน โดยมุ่งเน้นที่ 4 กลุ่ม) การเป็นพันธมิตรร่วมกับวิทยาลัยชุมชนสตูลได้รับการจัดตั้งอย่างเป็นทางการผ่านบันทึกความเข้าใจร่วมกันทั้งสองฝ่ายรวมทั้งมีการสร้างและการสื่อสารเชิงกลยุทธ์สำหรับมูลนิธิ (รวมถึงการสร้างเว็บไซต์นี้)
