OUR MISSION
Klong Toh Lem Academy Foundation (KTLA) is a grassroots organization that works with and for the local community. It is located in Kok Payom, a small village in the wilderness of the tropical South of Thailand. The main goal of the organization is to support the development of the local community with special focus on education, life-long learning and protection of the environment. Klong Toh Lem Academy takes its name from Klong Toh Lem, a small island connected to the village, where the locals created a center for non-formal education in the middle mangrove forest. At the Academy, children, adults, international volunteers and grassroots activists can learn from the nature and contribute to preserve the forest and its inhabitants, the true treasure of this rural community.
Community Development
We support the development of the local community of Kok Payom through capacity building and education. Our action is based on the value of local resources, both natural and human, in order to find a key to sustainable development tailored to our local context. We want to help the community to thrive and to autonomously identify and find solutions to the problems that affect their society.
Environment
Our activities focus on the harmony between humans and nature. We value local natural resources and we take them into account in all our actions. The local community has always lived in strong connection with the nature and it recognizes its value. We aim at passing this local wisdom from generation to generation and at helping the community to find new solutions to protect its natural treasures.
Non-formal learning
We believe in the power of education as driver of positive change. We strive for creating a healthy environment where everybody can learn how to love learning, in harmony with nature. Our activities target young people, their families, local and international volunteers. Together we dive into playful learning adventures about English Language, environment, computer, crafts and sports and Islamic education.
